Wood flooring comes in a variety of different styles, allowing us to install the type which best suits your home. Learn more about the unique properties of each down below!
Strips for flooring come in a variety of lengths, typically spanning from 300mm to 2500mm. What sets strip flooring apart is its characteristic use of relatively narrow boards in comparison to any alternative styles. The defining feature of strip flooring is the multitude of randomly interconnected lines, giving it a unique and distinctive aesthetic appeal.
Boards come in varying lengths, typically falling within the range of 300mm to 4000mm. While their widths typically start at 100mm, in certain exceptional cases, they can extend up to 300mm. These boards are commonly tongue and grooved, and they offer the choice of either a Square-Shouldered or Micro Bevelled profile.
It’s worth noting that longer boards tend to create a less visually cluttered appearance for the floor. In other words, opting for longer lengths and wider widths contributes to a more attractive and authentic flooring aesthetic.
Wide boards typically exhibit a rugged, roughly sawn texture, free from discernible joints. These boards are traditionally surface-nailed, and their installation often results in charming, random gaps that contribute to an antique flooring ambiance.
These boards are wider than the standard, usually custom-sawn and can extend up to a generous 15 inches in width. What truly distinguishes wide boards is the stunning diversity in grain patterns and colors, notably in English Oak or Scottish Elm, offering a striking visual appeal.
Parquet blocks are rectangular wooden pieces that offer versatility in various layout designs, with the classic Herringbone Parquet featuring a double border surround being particularly popular.
The standard dimensions for contemporary parquet blocks are 230x70x20mm. Modern blocks are consistently equipped with tongue and groove features, whereas reclaimed blocks may have a dowelled locking mechanism or simply be a solid square-edged block without joints.
Panels typically take on a square shape, featuring a border around the perimeter and intricate inner designs crafted from small wooden pieces. Originally, French parquet panels were expansive, measuring 1000mm squared, but contemporary options include 600mm squared and 800mm squared panels.
These panels boast a diverse array of designs, often commanding a relatively high price, typically exceeding £100 per square meter.
Mosaic squares panels fall within this category as well, though they consist of smaller tiles, approximately 470mm squared and a slim 9mm thickness.
Planks typically serve as pre-finished Engineered floors with a thickness of 14mm, designed for floating installation. They serve as a temporary floor covering, featuring planks composed of one, two, or three distinctive lines on the surface. The 14mm Engineered floors are interconnected using diverse click systems.
Solid wood flooring is crafted from a single, unbroken piece of timber that is machined into a flooring board. It can be produced in various styles such as strips, boards, planks, and blocks, offering a wide range of lengths and widths that can suit rooms of any size!
Engineered wood flooring is composed of sturdy boards that can endure fluctuations in air humidity, room temperature, and subfloor temperature far better than traditional solid wood. As a result, flooring made from this type of material is highly compatible with underfloor heating systems.
